Correcting people has its rewards.
That’s what a Warcraft fan learned after he confronted Blizzard game developers in the recently concluded Blizzcon Fan Expo.
The fan, only known as “The Red Shirt Guy”, noticed something wrong in the Warcraft lore. He noticed that one character, Falstad Wildhammer, was missing in World of Warcraft. The game developers were quick to respond that Falstad is supposed to be dead, only to be burned by The Red Shirt Guy who stated that Falstad is supposed to be alive, as implied in the novel “The Shattering: Prelude to Cataclysm”.
Zing! Bet those Blizzard guys didn’t see that coming.
Working on a highly acclaimed game franchise isn’t actually a walk in the park, and that’s why these game developers were fortunate that this fan was able to point out this plothole before it blew into epic proportions. For all they know, millions of hardcore Warcraft fans could’ve blasted them for this error.
Red Shirt’s vast knowledge of the Warcraft universe is truly overwhelming, but Blizzard’s boys also deserve some credit. After all, they handled the incident very well. Aside from the funny response to Red Shirt’s inquiry, they did resurrect Falstad in WoW and added a new NPC, the Wildhammer Fact-checker.
The new NPC dons a red tunic and is Blizzard’s way of paying tribute to The Red Shirt Guy. So as you can see, criticizing people will eventually pay off. Well, sort of.
So to all gamers out there, the next time you start mashing those buttons, waving your hands at that motion sensor, or dragging that mouse, better checkout the game for bugs or plotholes. Who knows, bringing up the problem to game developers may get you in the game?
Just be sure you have the heart to embarrass someone. Poor Blizzard dudes. I’m pretty sure they will be hearing about this for quite some time.
That's pretty funny, congratulations to Red Shirt Guy.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you on that one Penk. By the way, thanks for dropping by.
