Rumor has it that two new PSPs are in the works, and if these gizmos turn out to be real, Sony can make a killing out of them.
The picture shown above is supposed to be a PSP and smartphone hybrid. According to IGN, Sony may be bringing Playstation technology to Sony Ericsson to take a crack at mobile phone supremacy. If this happens, Sony may just change the landscape of mobile phone gaming. Then again, probably not.
While a Playstation Phone may save you from reaching into your pocket or bag to answer that call, it’s pretty hard to tell if it has something new to offer apart from functioning as a PSP and a cellphone in one.
And how about durability? Judging by the design, this PS Phone looks like a modified version of the PSP Go which has a slide screen that feels like it’s gonna come off any time. L and R button mashing fingers may detach the screen if they go astray.
A PSP and phone hybrid also translates to no more uninterrupted games. You got pesky prank callers bothering you? Then just turn off your phone. How are you gonna do that with a PS Phone?
Anyways, since I see a lot of cellphone and PSP owners taking the MRT, I believe the PS Phone, if it’s for real, can turn out to be one of the most sought after gadgets in the country when it hits stores.
Now we move on to another PSP, the PSP 2.
There have been talks that a more powerful version of the PSP is in the works, and it will boast a touch screen as big as a mouse pad. Seeing that iPad is continuously exploiting the advantages of touch-oriented games, Sony doesn’t see any reason why they should get left behind.
No word if the PSP 2 will try to go 3D like the Nintedo 3DS but word has it that picture quality is in HD. Some even say that the PS Phone and the PSP 2 could actually be one and the same.
Since there’s no official word about this stuff, we'll just have to wait and see how things play out before we could actually play with these things. But if Sony is trying to rush the gadgets in time for the holidays, they're people are going to a have a very Merry Christmas.
